The Growing Energy Drinks Problem
The Growing Energy Drink Problem Among Teenagers in Lebanon
In recent years, the consumption of energy drinks among teenagers in Lebanon has increased significantly. Many young people drink these beverages to stay awake while studying, improve athletic performance, or simply because they enjoy the taste and marketing surrounding them. However, most energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine, sugar, and stimulants that can negatively affect adolescents’ health. According to the World Health Organization, excessive caffeine intake in adolescents can lead to sleep disturbances, increased heart rate, anxiety, and reduced concentration. Despite these risks, energy drinks remain easily accessible in many stores across Lebanon, and awareness about their potential health effects is still limited. This situation highlights the need for greater education, responsible marketing, and stronger public awareness to help teenagers make safer choices.

There are significant concerns about the effects of energy drinks on the health and well-being of young people. The discussion will focus on the possible health risks and influence of energy drinks on behavior and academic success. Recognizing these factors is essential for both teenagers and parents as they make decisions about energy drink consumption.
High Caffeine Content
High caffeine content is one of the main reasons energy drinks raise health concerns. Many energy drinks contain very large amounts of caffeine, sometimes equal to or even higher than several cups of coffee. This stimulant is added to increase alertness and reduce fatigue, but the quantity found in some products can be much higher than what is typically consumed in regular beverages. Because of this high concentration, caffeine has become one of the most debated ingredients in energy drinks.
High Sugar Content
Energy drinks often contain very high amounts of added sugar. A single can may include several teaspoons, sometimes exceeding the amount found in many other soft drinks. Because of these large quantities, the sugar content in energy drinks has become a major concern when discussing the ingredients and overall composition of these beverages.
