High Sugar in Energy Drinks: A Hidden Risk for Teenagers' Health.
High sugar content in energy drinks can negatively affect teenagers in several ways. When a large amount of sugar is consumed, it quickly raises blood sugar levels, giving a short burst of energy. However, this is usually followed by a sudden drop in energy, often called a “sugar crash,” which can cause tiredness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. Frequent consumption of high-sugar drinks can also contribute to weight gain and increase the risk of dental problems such as cavities. Over time, regularly drinking beverages with high sugar levels may also raise the risk of metabolic health problems like Type 2 Diabetes.
